What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis when used for treating a physical or psychological problem , is called Clinical Hypnosis or
Hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a highly relaxed state - a state in between being fully awake and being asleep.
Hypnotic states can occur spontaneously while reading a book, watching television, listening to music, dancing
or driving a car. – situations where the mind is in a state of pleasant and focused awareness. The mind is
calm and the body is completely relaxed. Under hypnosis, the conscious rational part of the brain is
temporarily bypassed, making the subconscious part, which influences mental and physical functions,
extremely receptive to suggestions.
Hypnotherapy is completely safe when used professionally, and there is nothing to fear. Most people find
the experience of hypnotherapy to be deeply relaxing and refreshing.
What is hypnotherapy used for?
Hypnotherapy is useful for everything from managing chronic disease to breaking bad habits,
changing unhealthy lifestyles and coping with pain. Most importantly it helps to reduce stress which is
responsible for causing or aggravating several illnesses.
Hypnotherapy can help
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Scientific evidence from physiological, epidemiological and clinical research have confirmed mind’s influence
on the body and body’s own healing powers.
When a person is predisposed to achieving a certain goal, the heightened state of concentration of
hypnotherapy allows the mind to be unusually receptive to suggestions towards the achievement of that goal.
The relaxation and awareness of the hypnotic state allow such suggestions to penetrate the subconscious
mind more fully.
What is the Hypnotherapy session like?
At the initial interview, the doctor will discuss with the person what he or she hopes to gain from the session
and the expected goals. During hypnotherapy, the physician will talk to the patient through a relaxation
exercise, and then will help the patient to visualize and focus on the achievement of the goals. There is
nothing mystical or magical about hypnotherapy. It is simply relaxing and focusing totally on your goals.
How long are the sessions and how many sessions will be needed?
The number of treatments will vary depending on each individual and the condition being treated. The initial
session may last one hour or more and subsequent sessions 30 minutes to an hour
Will I be unconscious during therapy?
No. The person is never unconscious. In fact, the patient is very focused and aware of everything at all
times.
Will I be in control of my thoughts and actions?
Yes. The person is always aware of what is going on and in total control of his or her actions. No hypnotist
can make a person do anything against his or her will under hypnosis. In other words, the person is always in
control.
Is it possible that I won’t wake up from hypnosis?
No. Patients always “wake up” from hypnosis, because the patient in fact is never unconscious or asleep to
begin with.
Will I say things I don’t want to, or give away secrets?
This will never happen. The person is always conscious and in control of what he or she says. Hypnotherapy
bears little resemblance to the hypnosis seen in movies and on television. The patient is alert, aware, and in
control at all times. Hypnosis merely helps the patient to achieve his or her own goals more effectively.
